Getting started
What should I complete first after joining Hive?
Start with the profile details requested during setup and add at least one clear photo. A bio, interests, prompts, and lifestyle details can help others get a sense of you, but you can fill them in at your own pace. For photo and profile tips, read the profile guide.
Should I allow notifications?
Notifications can help you notice likes, matches, chat activity, and account updates. You can review notification preferences in Account Settings and in your device settings.
Discovery
How does Discovery decide who to show me?
Discovery applies your profile details and selected preferences along with Hive’s eligibility and safety rules. Keeping your profile and preferences current helps Hive reflect who you are hoping to meet. Explore the profile and Discovery guide.
Can I change who I am interested in?
Review your dating preferences in your profile or account settings. Available controls can depend on the version of the app you are using.
Why am I seeing fewer profiles than expected?
Your preferences, location, and the number of eligible active profiles can affect what appears. Check that your profile details and preferences are current, then try again later. Our Discovery guide has a short troubleshooting checklist.
Likes & chats
What happens when I like someone?
A like is a way to show interest. When interest is mutual and Hive creates a match, you can connect in chat.
When can I send a message?
Chat is available for matched connections. Open the Chats area in the app to see your conversations.
Can I use GIFs or voice messages in chat?
Some richer chat tools may be available in Hive. If you see them in your conversation, use them respectfully and follow the same community expectations as you would for text.
What does passing or disliking do?
Passing moves you on from a profile in the current Likes or Discovery flow. It helps you focus on the connections that feel right to you.
Profile
How many photos should I add?
Start with at least one clear photo, then add more when you are ready. Good lighting, a visible face, and natural framing can make a profile easier to connect with. See the profile guide for more ideas.
What is profile verification?
Verification is an optional trust signal where available. Check the verification option in your app for its current requirements and details.
Account
Where do I manage email and push preferences?
Review email and push preferences in Account Settings. Your device’s notification settings may also affect which push alerts you receive.
What is Hive Plus?
Hive Plus is the app’s premium area. Open Hive Plus in Settings to see the benefits, pricing, and availability currently shown for your account.
